HOMOLOGATED SPORTS MUFFLERS: A MINI-GUIDE
Is it finally time to change the muffler on your faithful friend of adventures on two wheels?
Dear motorcycle enthusiast: this could be the decision that will turn around the way you experience the road and your relationship with your bike.
Why?
Simply because replacing your current muffler with a sporty and approved one will make a difference. Above all, in terms of increased engine soundand improved engine power.
Despite these advantages, it is not always easy to find the right approved sports muffler for your motorcycle. In fact, there are several models and brands of aftermarket mufflers that might appeal to us, especially in terms of sound.
So, if you too know you want to move in this direction but still have some doubts about it, keep the following points in mind.
Homologated Sport Mufflers: What to Pay Attention To?
N.1 The homologation code.
When a rider expresses his intention to replace his original exhaust, he absolutely must do so with an officially homologated one.
This means that the product must be accompanied by the approval sheet containing:
- an exhaust approval code that must match the one printed on the exhaust itself.
- the list of models for which that particular item was created and approved.
Obviously, the list must also include the model of your motorcycle.
This way you can sleep soundly and not risk a fine for failure to observe the rules stated in Article 72 of the Highway Code.
The latter states that "anyone circulating with devices that are missing or do not comply with the provisions established in the stipulated provisions shall be subject to the administrative penalty of payment of a sum of 84 to 335€."
No. 2: What are your goals for improvement?
To make the correct choice of your new homologated sports exhaust you should mainly ask yourself what is the goal you want to achieve.
For example, if your goal is to get a muffler that is lighter and less cluttering when driving, we recommend that you opt for an exhaust with a shorter tailpipe. This will allow you not to lose power, save weight and get a smaller muffler.
On the other hand, if your goal is theimprovement of performance in terms of sound and aesthetics, you should opt for a very good quality exhaust that resonates well and is--aesthetically--beautiful to look at.
N. 3 The budget and actual use of your bike.
How much will you use your bike? And how much do you want to spend to replace your approved sports muffler?
These seem like trivial questions, yet they are not. In fact, there are several models of homologated sports exhausts and their price ranges from a few hundred euros to thousands of euros.
Dear rider, if you have come this far in reading this means that you are serious about replacing your muffler with a homologated one.
And you do well. This modification will bring several very important benefits. In fact, in general, it will succeed in improving the sound, performance, weight, and design of your bike.
